Last night, Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein, rov of the Ramat Elchonon neighborhood of Bnei Brak and member of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah, attended the wedding of his grandson in Bnei Brak.
As is the custom at weddings, ash was placed on the head of the chosson prior to the chupah. However, Rav Zilberstein adamantly refused to allow cigarette ashes to be used for the ashes place on the head of the chosson.
“Ashes of cigarettes are treif,” said Rav Zilberstein, who asked that tissue being burned to produce ash for this purpose.
This was indeed done and Rav Zilberstein placed the ashes on the head of his grandson.
The chosson is a son of Rav Zilberstein’s son, Rav Avrohom Yaakov Zilberstein, author of Avnei Choshen on Ketzos Hachoshen and many other seforim. The wedding was held at the Armonot Chein Hall in Bnei Brak.
