For the first time in nearly seventy years at Yeshivas Slabodka in Bnei Brak, where there is little singing during the Yomim Noraim davening, the talmidim sang various portions of the tefillah this week.
Talmidim at Slabodka requested from the roshei yeshiva to sing Hayom Haras Olam and Areshes Sefaseinu, the portions said at tekias shofar during Mussaf‘s chazoras hashatz. They were granted their request.
On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, however, the rosh yeshiva, Rav Dov Landau, said that only Areshes Sefaseinu should be sung, and not Hayom Haras Olam, which, he explained, is required by halachah to be recited with great awe and reverence.
