Anti-draft activists have initiated a campaign of publicizing the names and photos of not only chareidim active in drafting yeshiva students, as they have done until now, but also of regular chareidi soldiers.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman denounced the development. He called upon Public Security Justice Ministers Gilad Erdan and Ayelet Shaked to show zero tolerance to the new phenomenon, locate the people responsible for it, and amend existing laws to facilitate the prosecution and punishment of the offenders.
In Bnei Brak, police recently arrested a Jew after he yelled “chardak” at a chareidi soldier. Until now the judiciary did not regard the use of this derogatory label as a crime. Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan invested a lot of effort to alter this state of affairs.
Meanwhile, the IDF has stepped up efforts to recruit Bedouin Arabs, offering a two-year program (six months less than regular service) during which trainees will have the alluring opportunity to earn truck driving licenses. Eighty Bedouins signed up so far.
