It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of R’ Lenny Maline z”l.
Growing up in Brownsville, NY, in the early part of the last century, R’ Lenny was a member of a unique chaburah of youngsters that included Lieutenant Meyer Birnbaum z”l, R’ Moish Swerdloff z”l and others, who were greatly impacted by the leaders of that community, including R’ Tzvi Yehudah (Harry) Hisiger z”l.
R’ Lenny, who was one of the last links to that bygone world, took the values and ideals he imbibed during his youth and went on to establish a beautiful family b’derech Yisroel saba. While many of his contemporaries assimilated and left their heritage behind, R’ Lenny and his chaveirim clung to their mesorah and proudly raised families of yerei’im ushleimim.
During his last period, R’ Lenny moved to Lakewood, NJ, where he resided not far from his children. He was a regular presence at Chevra Lomdei Torah (Yuks) on Fifth Street, where he was would learn for many hours at a time.
His soft-spoken nature and eidelkeit reflected the special nature that he possessed, always greeting every person with utmost respect and carrying himself with humility and dignity.
R’ Lenny leaves behind an outstanding family following in his ways, including his son, R’ Moshe Maline of Lakewood.
The levayah will be held today at 10:30 p.m. at the at Congregation Sons of Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Chapel, located at 613 Ramsey Street, off of East 7th Street, in Lakewood, NJ.
