Following the recent passing of the Pashkaner Rebbe, Rav Yisroel Sholom Yosef Friedman, his son, Brigadier General Rav Hoshea Friedman, was appointed as his successor and leader of the Pashkan chassidus. To fulfill those duties, he has now resigned from his position as the IDF’s Head Reserve Officer and ended a forty-year army career.
“Today, I leave my position as Head Reserve Officer and know that this important and wonderful system is in good hands,” he said. “I appreciate and thank all the thousands of reservists who leave their homes, work and families time after time to come for reserve duty.”
Rav Hoshea Friedman is a direct descendant of Rav Yisroel of Ruzhin and the Maggid of Mezritch and his mother was a daughter of the Imrei Chaim of Vizhnitz. He will now devote his time to his mostly religious-Zionist kehillah in Yerushalayim’s Giloh neighborhood and deliver shiurim at the Ahavas Yisroel Hesder Yeshiva in Netivot where his father taught Gemara and chassidus until his last day.
