Rebbetzin Chana Tabak a”h

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Chana Tabak a”h.

Rebbetzin Tabak was the wife of Rav Eliyahu Tabak z”l, one of the early residents of Monsey and a member of a unique chaburah at Bais Medrash Elyon.

Chana Gertzulin came from a family that was both uncompromising in their observance of Yiddishkeit and simultaneously full of joy and laughter. Her parents, Rabbi and Mrs. Aaron Gertzulin, were so particular about having the entire family stay strong in their Yiddishkeit that they sent their children to public school rather than have them attend the Jewish schools that they felt were not up to standard.

Rebbetzin Tabak’s Jewish education was given in the home by her mother and grandmother. She was taught Chumash, dinim, parshas hashovua and Tze’ena Ure’enah in a group on Shabbos. The language of instruction was Yiddish. Amazingly, this all transpired in the Brooklyn of the 1940s and 1950s.

In 1959, Chana was introduced to her life’s partner, Rav Eliyahu Tabak, a budding talmid chochom with strong ideals. She brought the contagious simchas chaim that she saw in her own home to their marriage. Together, Rabbi and Mrs. Tabak melded into a formidable team that raised a unique, exemplary Torah family.

Rav Eliyahu passed away a little over two years ago.

The Tabaks had fifteen children, but throughout their lives, each one felt that they were the “only child” to their parents. Rabbi and Mrs. Tabak were always there for them.

Can’t Toivel Due to Coronavirus? MK Introduces Mechiras Keilim

$

During this challenging time, it is not always possible to Toivel Keilim, due to the restrictions that are currently in effect. Many people are making Pesach for the first time and are purchasing new Keilim, making it even more challenging.

With this in mind, the MK, the vaad hakashrus in Canada, has set up a system of Mechiras Keilim (selling the utensils, pots, pans, cooking and other appliances, etc.), similar to the sale of Chametz, by selling it to a gentile. This works with the intention that it is only for a short period of time, 30 days. During this time, one may use these items, which are borrowed from the Non-Jew. However, after 30 days, these are then returned to the original ownership of the person that purchased them, and must then be toiveled.

In order to make it simpler, complete the form HERE. Each day at 6pm, up until and including Monday, April 6th, all of the forms that the MK receives, and all of the included on those forms, will be sold. At 6:30 on the day your form was submitted, you are allowed to use these items.

Please ensure that you do not discard any of the items. Disposable aluminum pans may be included in the sale for those who wish.

Reb Zeev Rothschild zt”l

$

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Zeev Rothschild zt”l, a towering baal chesed and yorei Shomayim.

Reb Zeev, the owner of NPGS in Lakewood, NJ, was one of Lakewood’s most notable and selfless baalei chesed, and was involved in numerous tzorchei tzibbur.

Reb Zeev quietly and without fanfare helped numerous struggling families, almanos and yesomim. He was called upon regularly to mediate in difficult situations, and with his tremendous chochmah, he’d navigate seemingly impossible circumstances, while everyone knew that Reb Zeev had no agenda other than to help those involved.

Reb Zeev resided on Forest Avenue in the heart of Lakewood, right near Seventh Street, around the corner of Bais Medrash Govoah. Indeed, he was the very “heart” of Lakewood, as his own generous heart had room for every yochid and every nitzrach, every need and every person who could be helped.

Reb Zeev was always away from the limelight, and that’s how he liked it. He never sought recognition or accolades, despite that wide reach of his activities.

The word “no” did not exist in his vernacular. If there was a need, if someone could be helped, if he could be involved in an undertaking l’sheim Shomayim, he was there.

When Reb Zeev identified the high cost of food for the average frum family, he launched a then-unheard idea, a Non-Profit-Grocery-Store, to become known as the Co-Op, and later as NPGS, to provide groceries at reasonable prices. When he felt he could do more, he launched his own shechitah, and his own line of products, again in order to provide food at the lowest prices to bnei Torah.

His shechitah and grocery line were also launched in an effort to provide the absolutely highest level of kashrus anywhere.

Reb Zeev actually took on a special mashgiach just to supervise the products sold in his stores, so that any shopper could be confident that any product taken off a shelf at any of the Co-Op stores was on a mehadrin level.

Reb Zeev was unbending in his hashkafah and standards, and wouldn’t allow any item into his stores if he felt it could compromise the purity and reinkeit of Torah mishpachos.

The Co-Op is officially a “business,” but one might say that it is more of a chesed organization. The amount of chesed done from the NPGS offices is unfathomable. From hiring workers who needed parnassah to providing food to an untold number of families to helping thousands who benefit from the Co-Op’s prices and integrity, Reb Zeev’s NPGS is a virtual chesed empire.

But that was only one facet of Reb Zeev, who was an outstanding talmid chochom, who was well-versed in halacha and adhered, personally, to the highest levels of dikduk b’halacha and shemiras hamitzvos. He was a shining role model to others in his sterling middos, his humility, his ehrlichkeit, and everything he stood for.

As one askan said, “Reb Zeev was a chad bedara, one in a generation.”

Reb Zeev had become very ill and a name was added, as Yidden davened for Shlomo Zev Asher ben Devorah. He passed away this morning.

Reb Zeev’s petirah has plunged tens of thousands of admiring friends and families into mourning. Who will be there now to help the downtrodden and forlorn? Who will be there now to worry about the yochid? Who will be mafkir themselves to the klal, doing anything and everything for whoever needs it?

Mi yitein lonu temuraso?

Reb Zeev is survived by his dedicated rebbetzin, Mrs. Brachi Rothschild, and their wonderful family.

Levayah details will be published once they are finalized.

Reb Chaim Moshe had contracted the coronavirus.

A tremendous baal chesed and baal tzedakah, Reb Chaim Moshe donated millions of dollars to Torah and chesed institutions over many decades.

Born in the city of Kashau, he was a son of Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchok Strulovics. Rav Refoel Blum, the Rebbe of Kashau, served as sandek at his bris.

His father, who lived in Hungary before the Second World War, learned b’chavrusah with Rav Y. T. Dushinsky, the Nitra Rov and others.

In his youth, Reb Chaim Moshe studied at the yeshivos of Nitra, Dushinsky and Satmar and received semicha.

He married his wife, a daughter of Rav Mechel Vider of Antwerp, and lived in Belgium for several years. Then, at age twenty-four, he moved to Vienna and became involved in his father’s business.

After the passing of his father, Reb Chaim Moshe took over his father’s business and entered the real estate industry.

Reb Chaim Moshe became close to numerous Chassidic courts, and he dispensed tzedakah with great generosity.

Despite various nisyonos throughout his life, Reb Chaim Moshe maintained his positivity and simchas hachaim, and demonstrated kindness to one and all.

After settling in Lakewood, NJ, many years ago, he opened a shul, Daas Kedoshim-Butcatch, which became a hub of Torah and tefillah at the corner of Madison Avenue and Eighth Street.

Reb Chaim Moshe is survived by his rebbetzin, Mrs. Lea Strulovics, and their children and grandchildren.

In addition to reciting Tehillim, Reb Chaim’s children ask that yidden dance a rikud b’simcha (individually, while practicing social distancing) in order to sweeten the harsh judgments as per Rebbe Nachman’s teaching in Likutei Moharan 10. Let’s storm the gates of heaven! May we only hear besuros tovos.
