Novominsker Rebbe Calls On Public to Help Kallah Whose Wedding Plans Were Devastated By Fire
-Communicated- This appeal is endorsed by prominent Rabbonim.
A terrifying fire has made one family’s difficult circumstance even more dire. During the past Succos Yom Tov a serious fire broke out on 49th St in Boro Park devastating the full interior apartment of a young kallah still living with her parents. Fire began in a neighbor’s succah and quickly spread to the kallah’s home. Fire, smoke and water damage have destroyed everything that was purchased in preparation for the wedding including the kallah’s gown, veil, sheitel, clothing for sheva brachos, housewares and other household items for the kallah’s new home. The family, who was already struggling to make ends meet, is now homeless and facing terrible and frightening financial circumstances.
DONATE HERE.
They are making a wedding in less than two weeks and have no place to rest their heads and no means to replace the precious items that were lost in the fire. Please help this young kallah get to her chuppah and set-up her new home with dignity and menuchas hanefesh.
Funds are critical & we are asking everyone to participate & contribute as generous as possible towards this time sensitive situation of Hachnosas Kallah and Hachzakas Talmid Chacham. Please email for any necessary further details required for helping the family.

Photos: How Many Articles of Clothing Can People Forget in a Shul?
Bais Medrash Kol Aryeh is a center of Torah and tefillah in Lakewood, NJ. Led by its rov, Rav Moshe Peretz Schwartz, the bais medrash pulsates with sounds of davening and learning all day.
But it seems that many who frequent the shul leave things behind. In fact, the shul has a collection of hundreds of items that mispallelim and lomdim have forgotten to take with them.
“We’re talking about a collection worth thousands of dollars,” a mispallel at the shul told Matzav.com. “There are jackets, suits, coats, raincoats, umbrellas – even a couple of pairs of ladies’ shoes.”
The latter items were likely left by visitors to the shul’s simcha hall.
Kol Aryeh is a meticulously maintained shul, and the lost articles of clothing are carefully stored. Some are even marked, indicating when they were found and how much longer they will be stored. In fact, a full room in the shul’s basement is dedicated to storing these items.
“It’s a veritable clothing store,” said a mispallel.
Now, the shul is informing mispallelim to kindly claim their items. Those items not claimed by this weekend will be rendered hefker.
“The Torah is concerned about mammon Yisroel,” said a gabbai at a different shul who is familiar with this phenomenon of items being left in botei knesses and yeshivos. “People should be more aware of taking their possessions with them.”

Lakewood Deputy Mayor: We Are Against Any Increased Density Housing
A Lakewood, NJ, committeeman says that the Lakewood Township Committee is against any increased density for its town.
Deputy Mayor Isaac Akerman, who is up for reelection this Tuesday, let that message be known both publicly and in an email sent at the end of October to the Master Plan Committee responsible for future development in Lakewood.
Residents have expressed concerns at Township Committee meetings and elsewhere about the unrestrained building in Lakewood, highlighting that irresponsible development has had a negative impact on the quality of life in Lakewood.
The uncontrolled development in Lakewood, residents say, is directly causing the traffic gridlock that has plagued the town, as well as a suffering rental market, with a surplus of apartments in homes owned by yungeleit, who are collapsing under their financial burdens.
The following is the text of an email sent by Deputy Mayor Akerman to a member of the Master Plan Committee:
From: “Albert Akerman” <aakerman@lakewoodni .gov>
Date: Oct 27, 2016 1:06 PM
Subject: Master Plan
To: “Justin Flancbaum”
Cc:
Justin,
Although we have discussed this issue on numerous occasions over the past few weeks, I am sending this email to formally convey the township committee’s opinion on density as it pertains to the master plan.
At our last committee meeting, the committee unanimously voted for me to inform you that we are against any increased density for Lakewood. As you prepare your recommendations for the committee, please ensure that the proposed master plan does not include increased density for any zone in Lakewood.
Thank you,
Albert

Video, Photos: Hafganos Across Israel for Bochur Jailed Over IDF Avoidance
Hafganos broke out across Eretz Yisroel today to protest the arrest of a bochur, a student at Kamenitz Yeshiva in Yerushalayim, who visited a police station to submit a complaint about an individual who has been harassing his family. While his appearance at the station was unrelated to army duty, he was promptly taken into custody for not reporting to the IDF.
The bochur was taken to a prison on Erev Shabbos to serve a ten-day sentence for his crime.
He did not report to a draft office in accordance with the view of Rav Shmuel Auerbach, who has instructed his followers not to communicate with the IDF at all when summoned for IDF duty, even for a draft deferment.

Rav Amar: One May Use Maaser to Purchase Health Insurance
It is not uncommon for well off families to become destitute when a father or mother becomes seriously ill and can no longer work. In a landmark p’sak, former Chief Rabbi and present Chief Rabbi of Yerushalayim Shlomo Amar ruled that people should take measures to forestall such situations.
“In our time when it is common worldwide to take out health insurance, this is a correct and blessed hishtadlus,” he wrote. “And there is no doubt that someone who cannot afford it may pay it from ma’aser money with no compunction.”
An insurance company publicized his p’sak under the heading, “The poor of your family come first,” but took the liberty of exaggeratedly writing, “There is an obligation for every family head to take out health insurance for his family,” when in fact Rav Amar only ruled that it is “correct” to do so.
Rav Moshe Feinstein (Orach Chaim 2:111) and Rav Ovadiah Yosef (Yechaveh Da’as 3:85) permitted the acquiring of life insurance, with Rav Moshe extending the heter to life, fire, theft, and car insurance as well.

“Vesein Tal Umatar” Begins in Eretz Yisroel
At Maariv tonight, 7 Cheshvan, in Eretz Yisroel, we begin to say Vesein Tal Umatar during the Shemonah Esrei in the bracha of Boreich Aleinu. Residents of chutz laaretz won’t start saying it until December.
The 7 Cheshvan date is based on the shitah of Rabban Gamliel, who says that tefillah for rain is suspended until fifteen days after Sukkos, so that the last of the olei regel returning home to Bavel from Yerushalayim will reach the River Euphrates and not be delayed by the rain.
In chutz laaretz, we wait until December 4th based on the shitah of Chananiah to wait until 60 days after the Yomim Noraim.
If one became aware after completing the bracha of Mevareich Hashanimthat one omitted Vesein Tal Umatar, one should wait to insert it right before “Ki atah shomeiah” in Shema Koleinu.
(It is advisable to repeat 101 times [and at the very least 90 times] “Ve’es kol minei sevu’asah letovah vesein tal umatar” so as to make the inclusion of Vesein Tal Umatar habitual and fluent, thus eliminating any future doubt as to whether one included Vesein Tal Umatar in Shemonah Esrei or not.
Please feel free to print this out and hang it up or distribute it in shuls and yeshivos.

Both Satmars Agree: Vote for Hillary
David Kinzer reports for JP Updates: The two Satmar factions in Williamsburg agree on this year’s presidential election. Both have endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
In a statement sent on Friday to Matzav.com and published on Matzav.com, Rabbi Moshe Dovid Niederman said that Clinton was sympathetic to the needs of the chareidi community as a senator and as secretary of state.
“Orthodox Jews benefited tremendously from the Clintons’ sympathy to our interests, and we have to show our appreciation by demonstrating that we recognized that and we are thankful for it, by coming out and vote for Secretary Clinton on Tuesday,” Niederman wrote.
In an interview with JP Updates, Rabbi Indig highlighted Clinton’s track record.
“She’s been in the system many years,” Indig said. “She has more experience.”
Indig also specified that he wasn’t voting for Clinton as a protest against Republican nominee Donald Trump, who some have painted as anti-Semitic.
“We’re not voting for personalities,” Indig said.

Rochester Welcomes New Community Kollel for First Time
On Rosh Chodesh Elul, a new community kollel opened in Rochester, NY, a first for the upstate community. The kollel has opened under the auspices of Congregation Light of Israel. Rav Avi Mammon, rov of Light of Israel, enthusiastically spoke about the new kollel, Ohr Torah.
“There was a desire to expand the Torah base of the shul and to significantly impact the greater Rochester Jewish community with harbotzas Torah,” explained Rav Mammon.
Several years ago, a few key members of the shul, Alan Brodsky, Dr. Ralph Madeb and Jeff Springut, began plans to establish a new kollel. Under the guidance and direction of Rabbi Mammon, the search for a rosh kollel and kollel members began in earnest.
Rabbi Daniel Schon, the rosh kollel, and Rabbi Yitzi Shulman, program coordinator, along with Rabbi Yitzchak Lomner and Rabbi Shaya Rand, were found to be a perfect fit. The members of the kollel, a magnificent group of yungeleit, showed the desire and ability to become part of this venture.
Aside from the daily learning schedule, the kollel engages baalei batim of all backgrounds and levels of Judaism in serious Torah learning.

Rav Edelstein: Vote Like Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky
Rav Gershon Edelstein, rosh yeshiva of Ponovezh Yeshiva and member of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah in Eretz Yisroel, told talmidim of his from the US who asked him for whom to vote in today’s US presidential election to follow the rosh yeshiva of Philadelphia, Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky, and vote for the candidate he supports.
Rav Kamenetsky instructed his talmidim to vote for Donald Trump, as did many other roshei yeshiva.
In answering his talmidim, Rav Edelstein said that Rav Kamenetsky is the “mara d’asra” of the United States and that Torah Jews should follow his guidance.
By and large, members of the Torah world have endorsed and are voting for Mr. Trump in today’s election.
The Torah world has traditionally identified with the Republican Party because of its conservative stances, unlike the secular Jewish majority that identifies with the Democrats.
Chassidic groups have aligned themselves with more liberal-leaning Democrat candidates, such as Hillary Clinton. The Chassidim of both rebbes of Satmar have been instructed to vote for Clinton in this election.
